Vitamin C, a member of the water soluble vitamins, has got to be the most widely known vitamin the world over. However, this is not unexpected since it is an essential nutrient and the body requires it for over 300 functions. This vitamin is also a powerful antioxidant for the body and aids other vitamins and minerals to be assimilated better.

Vitamin C is found in just about every fruit and vegetable but some have far greater content than others. For example, Cranberries and melons are fruit and berries that have high c vitamin content. Hot peppers are amongst the richest sources of the C vitamin when it refers to vegetables. Actually, the hotter the pepper, the higher its C vitamin content is.

The suggested daily amount of C vitamin is easily received from eating five servings of fruit and vegetables a day. Vitamin C supplements are highly useful in ensuring that people obtain not just adequate but optimum amounts of C vitamin.

Vitamin C tops the list of ummune supplements but you will nedd to take it in sufficient amounts if you want it to work for you. Taking larger than normal frequent doses at the first sign of symptoms can nip the duration of infections in the bud. However, if you take too much, all at once, you may develop some flatulence and/or diarrhoea. This is a sighn for you to back off a little and moderate the dose. This means you need to maintain high leveles of vitamin C in your body but stay under the diarrhea threshhold.
